PLAYER DEVELOPMENT NEWSLETTER

"Mature players make character-based decisions on and off the court."

Travel With Phil - What I Learn From the Best of the Best!

One of the biggest separators for players at EVERY level...

Maturity

Mature players are serious and secure, as well as authentic and teachable. They tell the truth and seek the truth.

Mature players make character-based decisions on and off the court. They set their priorities by what they want most instead of what they want at the moment.

Mature players do not expect immediate success or instant gratification. They have confidence and self-belief to keep working for results that will come much later.

Mature players listen to the right voices over craving attention. They eliminate distractions and enjoy true praise.

Mature players are committed to doing their job and meeting the standard expected of them regardless of mood, situation or circumstance.  They are consistent, unwavering, and unchanging with their attitude and effort.

We know we have to develop the SKILL SET FUNDAMENTALS for athletes in each sport but there are also MATURITY FUNDAMENTALS we need to develop in ALL individuals for them to be the most complete and mature version of themselves...

Here are my top 5 - what are yours?

1. Looking others in the eye

2. Communicating with confidence

3. Showing up prepared and on time

4. Ability to appropriately handle feedback & criticism

5. Awareness of other people's feelings, needs, and emotions
