As many coaches know, having a release from coaching is very important. Giving yourself time to relax can help your focus. I will be sharing some of my recent shows/movies and look forward to hearing suggestions!

Garth Brooks - Road I'm On & The Blind Side

FIND A DISRUPTOR!

This is a great challenge Rod has given me every off-season.

Find a DISRUPTOR!

Whether personally, professionally, or spiritually...do you have someone who makes you look within? Challenges you?  Give you the truth?  It makes you think outside the box.

Here are some key points from Rod's newsletter on this topic!  We highly recommend signing up if you haven't already!

“The culture you are currently leading is an accumulation of your choices to date. If you want to get to the next level or have an uncommon organization, you'll need to disrupt things to create a path for it.” ― Coaches of Excellence

The Secret Ingredient to getting your organization and yourself to the next level: HAVE A DISRUPTOR.

Every Great Leader Has a Disruptor.

"Face it, Rod, guys like us are DISRUPTORS, and every great commander and leader I've ever known always chose a #2 in command who would tell them when their breath stinks, they had a disruptor." -Special Forces Commander

You may see the word "Disruptor," which has a negative connotation for you. When I'm called a disruptor, it's usually in a positive sense, much more along the lines of a catalyst. Over the years, the greatest leaders I've worked with want the truth, and they are implementers, meaning they have no fear of stretching themselves or their organizations. They love implementing new ideas and strategies.

TWO TYPES OF LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS TODAY

In the business & sports world, we are seeing two types of organizations and leaders in Today's World:

1. SURVIVALISTS: These individuals and organizations are in survival mode and have cut everything with no plans for 2021 other than to survive. Their favorite sayings are, "WHEN THINGS GET BETTER, WE WILL LOOK AT MOVING FORWARD AGAIN" and "THINGS CHANGE EVERY DAY, SO WE JUST NEED TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

2. OPPORTUNISTS: These people are strategists and have an entrepreneurial spirit about them. They are constantly looking for ways to improve their success or position regardless of their obstacles. They see the current world situation as an opportunity they don't want to miss.

You may be reading this and saying, "But Rod, you don't understand... we are in survival mode, and we don't have the resources to be an opportunist." Here's what I know: the culture(s) you and I are currently leading is an accumulation of the choices we have made to date. If you want to get to the next level or have an uncommon organization, you need to disrupt things to create a path for growth, and you may need to hire a disruptor/catalyst if you don't have one. Your problem isn't a lack of resources; it's a lack of resourcefulness.

"YOUR PROBLEM ISN'T A LACK OF RESOURCES... YOUR PROBLEM IS A LACK OF RESOURCEFULNESS"

During the off-season, there are times your most formidable competitor is yourself!
Don't live in a false reality - Challenge the man in the mirror!
Feed your mind with these 4 thoughts...

Two things that take anyone from good to great:

• Simplicity - Simple: plain, basic, or uncomplicated in form, nature, or design - easily understood or done.

• Consistency - Consistent: acting or done in the same way over time, unchanging in nature, standard, or effect.

Three ways to get better results shooting the basketball.

  • Shot Selection
  • Shot Preparation
  • Shot Discipline

If you want players to work with you…

You need to prove you are worthy of their time. You must prove you have the ability to get them better! You must give more to get more! The respect, trust, and loyalty they give are a byproduct of your commitment to them!

PLAN + PROCESS + PROGRESSION = Accelerated progress for players in the Off-Season!
